Mold Testing & Licensed Mold Assessments in Smithtown, New York

The harder questions are usually what comes next: How far does the problem extend? Is the moisture source actually fixed? Does drywall or flooring need to be removed? Is testing necessary? Can repairs begin, or should the area be assessed first?

All Island Mold Inspectors provides mold testing and environmental assessments in Smithtown, NY for homeowners who need clearer information before remediation, renovation, repairs, or rebuilding begins.

Smithtown Homeowners Often Have Long-Term Property Decisions to Make

Smithtown is a strongly owner-occupied community. Census data shows that 88.7% of occupied housing units were owner-occupied from 2020 through 2024.

That matters because mold and moisture concerns often overlap with larger property decisions.

A homeowner may be preparing to:

  • Finish a basement
  • Replace flooring
  • Renovate a bathroom
  • Open walls for plumbing work
  • Repair a ceiling after a leak
  • Rebuild following water damage
  • Sell or refinance the property
  • Restore a room after mold remediation

In those situations, the important question is not simply whether mold can be detected.

It is whether the property condition has been understood well enough to move forward without covering over an unresolved moisture problem or removing materials unnecessarily.

When Does Mold Testing Add Useful Information?

Testing is one part of a mold assessment—not the entire assessment.

Different situations may call for different starting points.

I recently discovered a very small section of mold in my basement, (approx 5 square ft). Richard McGinty (aka Richie Mold) from All Island Mold, (who came highly recommended) came out to take a look, and asses the situation. Richie took the time, explained everything in detail. Any questions I had were answered, in complete detail. Quotes, schedule times, set-up and communication were exception! Zero surprises Richie and Tommy (his project manager) were super friendly, honest, arrived on time, setup and sealed off the work area professionally, worked long hours and did an amazing cleaning and sanitizing job of the entire basement. I am completely blown away as to how clean everything now is. How much better it now smells and the major difference in the air quality! It is no longer the "Dungeon" but I room I very much look forward to using now. A million Thank yous to Richie and Tommy for the amazing job you did. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND RICHIE MOLD, TOMMY (AND TEAM) AT ALL ISLAND MOLD INSPECTORS. Forever grateful, Susan M. East Setauket.

Rich McGinty (Richie Mold) from ALL ISLAND MOLD INSPECTORS came to our home in Ronkonkoma, New York and helped us tremendously during a very stressful situation. As an active duty military member, I truly appreciated his honesty, professionalism, and willingness to help another military family. During our military move, a moving company delivered mold-contaminated contents to our home, which affected the air quality inside the house. With children and pets in the home, we were extremely concerned about the environment and our family’s health. Rich performed a full mold inspection, indoor air quality assessment, and mold air testing throughout the home. He used professional equipment including an infrared thermal imaging camera, moisture detection equipment, and a particle counter to help evaluate the indoor environment and air quality conditions inside the house. He explained everything clearly and made us feel comfortable throughout the entire process. Although he normally offers HEPA air scrubber equipment rentals, in our situation he dropped off two HEPA air scrubbers free of charge as a courtesy to help clean and filter the air in our home while we worked through everything. That truly meant a lot to our family. He also sent our mold samples to a certified EPA laboratory for detailed analysis and reporting, which gave us a much better understanding of what we were dealing with and helped support our insurance claim process. Not only did he help identify the mold and contamination concerns, but he also connected us with a public adjuster to assist with our insurance claim as well. If you need mold testing, mold inspection services, indoor air quality testing, particle analysis, or HEPA air scrubber rentals on Long Island, I highly recommend Rich McGinty and ALL ISLAND MOLD INSPECTORS. Professional, knowledgeable, responsive, veteran-owned, and someone who genuinely cares about helping people and protecting families, children, and pets.

Richard McGinty (Richie Mold) owner of All Island Mold Inspectors was a huge help to me. He was honest, reasonable, professional, and extremely easy to talk to. He inspected everything carefully, explained it in plain English, and most importantly, he did not try to upsell me or push unnecessary work. Tommy, who was with him, was also wonderful. He was pleasant, respectful, and professional, and together they made me feel comfortable during a very stressful situation. After months of stress, Richard gave me real peace of mind and pointed me in the right direction. I felt comfortable trusting him from the moment he came here. He was straightforward, looked out for my best interest, and treated me with kindness and respect. I’m very grateful for their help and highly recommend All Island Mold Inspectors. A+

Planning Renovation or Demolition? Check the Existing Conditions First

Renovation can expose both moisture damage and building materials that were previously hidden.

Projects involving finished basements, bathrooms, kitchens, flooring, ceilings, wall openings, or water-damaged materials may uncover conditions that need to be evaluated before work continues.

Smithtown’s Building Department specifically provides permitting information for alterations, demolition, plumbing, and other residential construction work.

Environmental questions may include:

  • Is there mold or moisture behind the material being removed?
  • Was previous water damage fully addressed?
  • Does a suspect material need asbestos testing?
  • Is the area ready for reconstruction?

We provide asbestos sampling, renovation surveys, demolition surveys, and hazardous material assessments for suspect materials before remodeling, demolition, restoration, or removal.

Appearance alone cannot reliably establish whether a material contains asbestos, so testing may be appropriate before questionable materials are disturbed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mold Testing in Smithtown, New York

Yes. All Island Mold Inspectors provides mold assessments, testing, moisture investigations, asbestos testing, indoor air quality testing, and post-remediation verification for properties throughout Smithtown and Long Island.

An assessment may make sense if the basement has persistent musty odors, visible discoloration, previous water intrusion, recurring dampness, or an unresolved leak history. Understanding those conditions before installing new finishes can help avoid covering an existing problem.

Moisture evaluation and thermal imaging can help identify areas that may deserve closer investigation, but no single tool automatically confirms hidden mold. Findings should be considered alongside visible conditions and the history of the property.

For professional mold projects covered by New York’s Article 32 requirements, assessment and remediation are separate roles. An independent assessment can help define what the remediation contractor needs to address.

Yes. All Island Mold Inspectors provides independent post-remediation verification and clearance testing to evaluate completed remediation before repair or rebuilding proceeds.
